A lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court in July describes a lurid and hostile scene at Morgan Stanley. A former client-services associate in the Melville, Long Island, office alleges her boss, a broker, stuck his hand up her skirt, stole underwear from her gym bag, sent her offensive notes and suggested they have sex. She further alleges that he asked her to wear dresses because his wife was getting fat, and complained about sex acts his wife refused to perform.
When she complained, she says an HR manager told her to “suck it up.” The firm then recommended a transfer to an office far from her East Islip home, where she would receive lower pay, less vacation and fewer benefits. Ultimately, the associate took disability leave for “emotional distress” and was fired while on leave.
The lawsuit is the latest in a string of sex-bias suits that have already cost the firm $100 million.
