Teach, don’t tell

Business consultant Terry St. Marie remembers being age 16 and working in a gas station, when his boss told the inexperienced worker to fix a flat tire. “Just get it done,” his boss said.  So he did, ruining the customer’s chrome rim.   

The very definition of “lead” begins with “show the way.” So why do so many leaders tell, rather than teach? Because showing the way can be time-consuming, hard and frustrating. Just do it.
