To speed the processing of child support withholding orders, the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) is encouraging employers to sign up for its electronic Income Withholding Order, or e-IWO. Currently, 23 states use e-IWOs.
The OCSE says the cost to your IT department will be minimal if you choose the No-Programming Option. You’ll start to receive e-IWOs in two to four weeks.
The OCSE says electronic transmission of IWOs will increase processing efficiency and improve the speed with which payments are made to families. Learn more about electronic IWOs at www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cse (click on “Employers” tab and then “Electronic Income Withholding Orders” in the left column).
Also, the OCSE’s new app—the Debt Inquiry Service (DIS)—allows you to check whether you must contact a state before paying a lump sum bonus to an employee. States choosing to participate in the DIS receive emails when an employer inquiry is made.
