Tips for better searching, from Alexandra Samuel’s “Love your life online” blog:
1. Beef up your syntax. If you’ve never used parentheses, the phrase “site:” or a minus sign during a search, it’s time to learn more about Google’s advanced search syntax. Start with “advanced search form.”
2. Add another search engine to your browser. Do you often search for information on a particular site, like Wikipedia or The New York Times? With many browsers, you can add a search plug-in to create a drop-down menu in your search bar.
3. Try Delicious, rather than Google. Interested in finding out more about a big topic, like “best Google search tips”? Look on Delicious.com. You’ll find frequently bookmarked web pages.
