Q. I converted my traditional IRA to a Roth on Jan. 6, 2010. Can I still undo the conversion? E.S., Rochester, N.Y.
A. Yes, but you’ll have to move really fast. You only have until Oct. 17, 2011, to “recharacterize” a Roth IRA conversion that took place in 2010.
If you filed an extension on your 2010 tax return to Oct. 17, you can unwind the 2010 conversion on your original return. If you’ve already filed your 2010 return, you will need to file an amended return on Form 1040X.
