Newer smartphones have such good cameras they can double as barcode scanners. That means while shopping, you can use your phone to:
1. Compare prices on the spot. An application called ShopSavvy is available for both the iPhone and Android. Scan a barcode to get prices from all over the web as well as retail outlets near you. Google Shopper is a similar application on Android.
2. Store your membership cards on your phone, rather than crowding your key ring. Take a picture of each grocery, gym or pharmacy loyalty card. Then when you’re checking out at the cashier or in with the front desk, your phone screen can be scanned as your card normally would be.
