Texas residents had one of the nation’s lowest per capita tax rates in 2009, according to the watchdog web site Taxadmin.org. Texas ranked 46th in state per capita taxes in 2009, up two slots from 48th in 2008.
Overall, state tax revenue was $40,787,000 in 2009, down from $44,676,000 in 2008.
The per capita tax burden stood at $1,646 in 2009. That’s $190 less per capita than in 2008.
On a percentage basis, Texas taxpayers spent 4.4% of their personal incomes on state taxes in 2009, compared to 5.1% in 2008.
