The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that Cobra Stone will pay its quarry workers $364,403 in overtime back wages. The Florence-based company, which produces natural stone for construction projects, will pay the back wages to 169 current and former employees.
The DOL’s Wage and Hour Division staged a two-year investigation of Cobra Stone from 2007 to 2009. It concluded that the company violated the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (), which requires paying overtime to covered employees at 1½ times the regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek.
