Is an online degree worth it?

in Workplace Communication

The last thing you need is to spend time pursuing an online degree or certificate, only to find that no one recognizes it.

Before you pursue a degree program, check for accreditation on the Council for Higher Education Accreditation web site (www.chea.org).

Beyond that, writes Eve Tahmincioglu on CareerDiva.net:

Determine what a degree from a particular institution will do for your career aspirations. What’s the “perceived value” of that degree?

Tip: Call alumni from the school to find out. If the institution isn’t willing to share this information with you, cross it off your list.

Find out what degrees are held by the people in coveted jobs. That’s easy to do these days, thanks to web sites like LinkedIn.
