The Communication Workers of America union has inked a new collective-bargaining agreement with AT&T, bringing 9% pay increases over three years to some 35,000 phone company employees in the Southeast.

The union had rejected a previous contract offer in December over disagreements over health insurance costs.

Under the agreement, health care premiums will drop in the second year of the contract, but workers will not have access to company-funded health reimbursement accounts (HRAs). Rewards for performance that currently fund employees’ HRA accounts will be disbursed in cash instead.

The contract covers workers in North Carolina and eight other southeastern states.
