Unemployment well runs dry: 70% of states raise taxes

The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that by 2011, 40 state unemployment trust funds will be drained due to the prolonged recession. As a result, 35 states have increased their unemployment insurance (UI) taxes on employers for 2010, says a report by the National Association of State Workforce Agencies.
