H.R. 3991 would guarantee workers with contagious diseases, such as the H1N1 flu virus, up to five paid sick days if their employer “directs” or “advises” them to stay home or go home due to the illness. The bill would cover full- and part-time workers (on a prorated basis) in businesses with 15 or more employees.

Prognosis: It could pass in the House, but will have a tougher time in the Senate.
