Defuse a stressed-out, tense workplace with simple, morale-boosting celebrations.
For example, a Fun Committee at reader Mark Baron’s company creates opportunities to celebrate at regular intervals. Every two weeks, he advises, find something to celebrate or some way to have fun.
If someone goes 12 months without missing a day of work, celebrate it. To celebrate National Pie Day (Jan. 23), get pies for the office. For Make a Difference Day (the fourth Saturday in October), challenge each employee to do one thing for a co-worker.
Even a kind gesture can make a difference. Baron says, “On a hot day, you might say, ‘I’m going to Dairy Queen. Who wants something?’”
Don’t wait for an excuse to celebrate. Create one.
