Whether you call your boss’s work style “creative” or “chaotic,” when your higher-up is full of ideas, it seems impossible to follow through on everything.
The work style is known as “Conceiver” or “Builder,” Alaina Love of Purpose Linked Consulting tells BusinessWeek, and you can help an idea person by putting structure into your conversations with him.
Example: You might say, “This week you came up with 20 great ideas. Let’s talk about them, and figure out which ones are top priorities.”
The approach has two benefits:
- You’re helping a Conceiver distill his ideas into actionable plans.
- And for yourself, you’re finding out which steps or tasks should take priority.
