Complicated visuals cause listeners to ignore your voice while trying to decipher the slide. Three rules for better PowerPoints:

  1. The six-by-six rule: No more than six words per line or six lines per slide.
  2. The “one” rule: Limit each slide to one idea or one point.
  3. The one-minute test: If the audience will need more than 60 seconds to figure it out, the slide is too complicated.
