Create an “action corner” on your desk. What to put in it: paperwork related to immediate tasks, notes from a phone conversation, a business card to enter into your address file, any in-progress items that will clutter up your desk if you don’t have a system for them.

Before the end of the day, make sure you’ve processed all the items in your action corner, so you’ll have a clean slate for tomorrow. Block off time in your calendar if that’s what it takes to keep up with the stack.
