Avis Budget Group to close call center in Wichita Falls

Avis Budget Group has announced that it plans to close a call center in Wichita Falls, in addition to a claims processing facility in Orlando, Fla., as part of its efforts to cut 2,200 jobs worldwide.

The rental car company said the job reductions are part of a five-point plan to reduce costs. The cuts follow the elimination of 700 jobs in 2008.

According to the company, it offered most employees the option of volunteering for termination in exchange for a better severance package.

As a result of the Wichita Falls closure, customer calls will be handled by third-party service providers or by Avis’ own contact centers in Oklahoma and Canada.

In a statement, Avis Budget Chief Executive Officer Ronald L. Nelson said, “While these are difficult steps to take, we are committed to ensuring that we adjust our business in response to the economic conditions in which we are currently operating.”
