Pick up know-how swiftly by swapping spots with someone. Two ways to do it, stolen from two company playbooks:

1. Swap jobs for a day. Google and Procter & Gamble recently swapped brand managers, so they could learn more about reaching customers.

2. Swap desks with someone in another department. At Bronto Software, every month, two employees trade desks for one week. As CEO Joe Colopy explains it, it creates insights and connections. “Innovation and creativity are about connecting things that appear disparate. Now that you have a relationship with that group, you can easily go to them or piece together ideas.”
