Federal contractors: New size scrutiny could free up more federal contracts

Federal agencies were embarrassed by a national newspaper report last month that revealed at least $5 billion worth of federal contracts intended for small businesses actually went to large companies.

The Washington Post says giant firms such as Lockheed Martin and Dell Inc. were awarded contracts as “small” businesses.

The good news:
This report will lead to more scrutiny of company size, which will probably free up more federal contracts for truly small businesses. Federal law mandates that a quarter of all federal government contracts go to small companies.
