One of the biggest challenges for managers is getting accurate information from staffers. After all, your decisions are only as good as the data you use to make them. To ensure that you get complete, correct answers to your questions, ask employees to provide supporting facts and figures. If they cannot draw upon documented data, ask them how they arrived at their answers. As you listen, determine whether the information can be verified or whether it’s really opinions or hunches disguised as fact.
