In theory, beepers, cellular phones and laptops with modems help you stay in touch with your customers and coworkers. But many users tell us they’re tired of always being interrupted at all hours of the day and night with business “emergencies.” You can always turn off the machine, but you risk cutting yourself off during a genuine crisis. One solution is to log all incoming calls during off hours. Classify those calls that do not qualify as emergencies. Then, after a few months, make a case to your boss to preserve at least some of your private time for yourself.
