So much for loyalty to a single employer. About 53 percent of U.S. employees predict that they’ll leave their current job voluntarily within the next five years, according to a recent poll by Louis Harris & Associates. Another 17 percent expect that they’ll be fired or laid off. At the same time, 75 percent of the workers report that their jobs are interesting and 90 percent say that they are very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with their jobs. Yet only half of the respondents rate their employer’s pay and retirement benefits positively. Source: Investor’s Business Daily, October 28, 1997.
