The most eye-catching résumés are easy to scan. Use white paper—one side only—and a familiar typeface such as Times, Courier or Helvetica. Also choose a font size of 12 points or 14 points, and don’t squeeze the spacing between letters so tightly that the text looks cramped. Use boldface for all section headings. Avoid fancy but distracting options such as underline or shadows.
