James Treacy runs a monster company

After James J. Treacy Jr. joined TMP Worldwide in 1994 to run its recruitment division, he boosted recruitment ad billings from less than $50 million to about $200 million in less than two years. He capped that off by helping lead TMP’s purchase of the Web’s premier career center, The Monster Board (www. monster.com).

Today, Treacy is TMP’s chief operating officer. He’s in charge of corporate strategy and development, company financing and investor relations.

WS: Did you always know you would help lead a huge public company?

Treacy: Not really. I’ve always focused on being positive and getting results. My motto is, “Have confidence in yourself but get over yourself.”

WS: Do you look for that same quality in people you hire?
