Respond to screamers by requesting more information

If an employee or peer starts yelling at you, telling the person to “calm down” won’t help. Let the speaker vent, reminding yourself not to take it personally.

When it’s finally time to respond, ask a question that requires the hothead to think before answering. This changes the dynamic so that you’re trying to learn more rather than buckling at the knees.
