Executive recruiters are great sources of scuttlebutt. It’s smart to maintain relationships with at least two of them, even if you’re not actively job hunting. A good way to win them over is to refer them to promising candidates when they’re in the midst of a tough search. Start by asking friends and colleagues to alert you when headhunters call. Then contact the recruiters and learn more about the type of candidates they seek. Armed with that information, launch your own search and try to funnel a few names to the headhunters. They’ll remember you and give you hot leads.
