In the past three years, the number of career coaches in the United States has almost doubled, from 5,300 to about 10,000. Many are former executives who either quit or lost their jobs. While there are some certification programs for coaches, there are no nationwide standards. When weighing whether to hire a coach, make sure you don’t pay hefty upfront fees. It’s better to pay as you go, after meeting with the coach for a free session and determining that you hit it off.
