Q I just graduated from college and took a job as a marketing manager with a big company. I’m off to a rough start. One of my first reports was filled with errors. I made some tactless remarks to my colleagues. Now every time I open my mouth, I feel like people devalue what I’m saying. What can I do?

A You can’t help it that you’re young and inexperienced. But if you appear young, inexperienced and dumb, that’s a problem. Regain your confidence by listening and learning. Ask intelligent questions, follow up and do your homework. Acknowledge your errors positively. Say, “I’ll never do that again.”
