Here’s a simple exercise that can help you derive more from your team.

First, write down at random the names of any two people on your team. Then, ask these questions:
  • “Do their individual strengths complement each other, equipping them to handle certain tasks as a pair?” Often, people’s strengths become much greater when combined.

  • “Should they not be assigned certain tasks?” That’s information that you need to have, too.
Continue listing random pairs to uncover ways to deploy your greater team effectively. Then, consider groups of people in threes, fours and so on.
