During his 18-year tenure as Federal Reserve chairman, Greenspan had his staff scour all sources for every shred of economic data available: the gross national products of foreign nations, industrial productivity figures, labor costs … everything.
“Knowledge is like peanuts,” he told one interviewer. “Once you start eating it, you cannot stop.”
