Those who show little respect for other people’s time rarely distinguish themselves as positive leaders, even if they occupy positions of authority.

To make sure you show that respect, review your skills in these three key areas:
  1. Punctuality. Arrive on time for appointments. Start meetings on time. When people arrive at scheduled times, don’t keep them waiting.

  2. Brevity. Keep meetings compact and short. Don’t require people to go to long lunches with you when they should be working.

  3. Efficiency. Create structures that help people eliminate repetitive, unnecessary duties. But also remember that certain routines — such as filing quarterly budget reports or holding weekly staff meetings — provide a repetitive structure that helps people work better.
