Q. I’m interested in the new rules that allow a non-spouse beneficiary of an IRA to assume a new and presumably longer life expectancy than the deceased. Does a Roth IRA have the same minimum-withdrawal rules? L.S., New York

A. Yes. An inherited Roth IRA is subject to the same minimum-withdrawal rules as a traditional IRA. With an inherited Roth IRA, the beneficiary uses the minimum-withdrawal rules as if the original owner had died before taking minimum distributions. Tip: A non-spouse beneficiary who inherits a Roth IRA cannot make additional contributions to the Roth IRA.
