The IRS has established a formula for businesses and tax-exempt entities to estimate refunds for improperly charged long-distance telephone taxes. (IRS News Release IR- 2006-179) Previously, the IRS created safe harbor methods for individuals. To request a refund, your business must use new Form 8913 (Credit for Telephone Excise Tax Paid). In completing the form, you may determine the actual tax paid for the appropriate period or use an approved formula.
