Q. My boss is a motormouth. She wastes my time and I’m less productive because of it. But even if I tell her politely, I fear it’ll hurt my chances for a raise. Should I speak up?
A. Not directly. Instead, as soon as she enters the room, get in the habit of saying: “I need to finish this in 15 minutes,” or, “You’ll get these numbers ahead of schedule if I can get this done by lunch.” Subtly reinforce your effort to meet or beat deadlines so that your boss appreciates the ticking clock.
