You can ask your staffers to do something, but that doesn’t mean they’ll do it. Say you want them to meet deadlines or complete weekly reports. You explain why. You ask nicely and express confidence. But some do spotty work. To improve their track record, keep score. Prominently post a chart that records each employee’s performance in a certain area, such as the number of times they generate customer praise. Keep a tally so they can see how they stack up. This visible tracking system will make everyone more accountable.
