Immigration raids: enforcement or politics? — Business Management Daily: Free Reports on Human Resources, Employment Law, Office Management, Office Communication, Office Technology and Small Business Tax Business Management Daily
Immigration raids at U.S.
workplaces have jumped by more than 50 percent in the past six months,
according to new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stats. ICE is also
stepping up prosecution of employers this year, filing criminal charges against
527 people it claims knowingly hired illegal aliens. In comparison, the agency
only filed charges against 25 employers in 2002. Critics claim the increased
enforcement is a political effort to show the administration is tough on
illegal immigration as it tries to pass an immigration reform bill.
