Don’t discriminate against short applicants, employees

A new, well-publicized study could raise skepticism (and potentially legal complaints) by shorter people about your pay practices. Taller employees earn more money and promotional opportunities, says the University of Florida study, which will be published in an upcoming Journal of Applied Psychology. It calculated that each inch in height amounts to about $789 more a year in pay. Federal law makes it illegal to discriminate in pay because of a person's gender, race, age or religion. Some state laws also ban bias based on an employee's appearance.
