Two Muslim women are suing McDonald’s restaurants, claiming they were denied jobs at a restaurant in Dearborn because they wore Islamic head scarves, or hijabs.

Toi Whitfield and Quiana Pugh claim a manager at a Dearborn McDonald’s told them, “You’re not going to work here if you don’t remove” the hijabs.

The Dearborn McDonald’s is one of only two in the country that sells Chicken McNuggets that are halal, the Muslim equivalent of kosher. Several Dearborn-area restaurants have introduced halal meat in the past few years to accommodate a growing Muslim population in the area.
