Three former taste testers for Parsippany-based Cadbury Adams USA are suing the company for injuries sustained when they tasted an experimental sweetener.

Maureen Zuccarini, Donna Magliaro and Stefanie Bonfiglio were sampling flavorings for products such as Trident gum and Certs mints when they tried a substance that burned their mouths and lips and made their hearts race. The lawsuits allege Cadbury exacerbated the injuries by refusing to disclose what the taste testers had ingested, even to their dentists.

Magliaro claimed the company fired her shortly after the incident for “asking questions and making others uncomfortable.” The other two taste testers then quit, she said, because they “no longer felt safe.”
