The city of Cocoa on the Space Coast is one of a growing number of state and local governments considering a four-day workweek to combat rising gas prices.

The city tried a four-day week two years ago for six months, but abandoned the practice because Mayor Michael Blake and two councilmen opposed making it permanent.

Final note: Could a four-day week work for your organization? If your goal is to offset employees’ higher transportation costs, it might be a better alternative than offering pay raises. After all, schedules can be adjusted at any time, but pay increases have a way of remaining permanent.
