According to a recent Pew Hispanic Center survey, Hispanic immigrants have been hard hit in the recent job downturn. Hispanic workers currently have an unemployment rate of 6.5%, compared with 4.7% for other workers.

Among Hispanics, those hardest hit were Mexicans, whose unemployment rate stands at 8.4%.

It appears that fewer Hispanics are heading to the United States, perhaps because of growing job losses. According to Pew, only 462,000 Hispanic immigrants arrived in 2007, down from a record 784,000 in the boom year 2005.
