U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown has expressed support for a union of editorial workers seeking a new contract at the Dayton Daily News.

The Dayton Newspaper Guild represents 147 reporters, copy editors and photographers. Union members took to the streets in April after the newspaper announced plans to deny part-time workers affordable health care and freeze wages.

The workers pointed out that their wages were pretty chilly already, as they haven’t seen a pay increase in 14 years. Minimum pay at the Dayton paper for an entry-level reporter is $25,650—while reporters at the Akron Beacon Journal receive a whopping $30,056.
