Former Longview union official pleads guilty to embezzlement

The former financial secretary and treasurer of Local 738 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, located in Longview, has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $40,000 over a three-year period.

The U.S. attorney charged Kyle Batts with using a union credit card to buy personal goods and services for himself. Batts pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and theft of labor union assets. He faces imprisonment followed by supervised release in addition to making full restitution and paying fines of up to $250,000.
