Q. I’m suspicious of employees who can’t handle their own financial affairs. Frankly, I’d rather not have irresponsible people working here. Can I fire an employee whose wages are assigned?

A.
That’s a very bad idea. The employer cannot suspend, discharge or discipline an employee who has subjected the employer to wage demands. In fact, doing so may be criminal. It is a Class A misdemeanor.
