Nobody’s accusing the state of Pennsylvania—where “Bonusgate” charges have been swirling—of underpaying its workers.

Trying to hold onto his party’s slim majority in the Statehouse, Democratic Majority Floor Leader Bill DeWeese instituted new ethics policies in the wake of a grand jury probe. Launched by Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett, the probe came in response to allegations that some of the $1.9 million in bonuses paid to 678 caucus workers in 2006 were given as rewards for off-the-books campaign work.

DeWeese said he hoped the new policies would end the culture of “politics as usual” in Harrisburg.
