Pharmacists who oppose abortion and object to dispensing Plan B emergency contraception will not have to do so as a result of a binding agreement reached with the state in October.
The agreement, which overrides a 2005 decree by Gov. Rod Blagojevich forcing pharmacists to dispense Plan B, acknowledges that pharmacists are health care professionals protected by the Health Care Right of Conscience Act.
Final note: If your health plan includes emergency contraception, you may want to provide information on where those prescriptions can be filled. After all, it is in your bottom line interest to make sure employees who want Plan B get it—prenatal care costs big bucks and can drive up insurance costs.
