A Fresno city policeman, who claimed the city forced him into early retirement following an on-duty motorcycle accident, has settled his age-discrimination and failure-to-accommodate claim for $825,000.
This was not the first time the city and officer had gone to court over the claim. The officer prevailed in a 2006 trial where a jury awarded him $568,000. The city appealed that verdict—only to settle a year later for the higher figure.
Sometimes you just need to know when to quit. But then again, that’s what the city told the officer, and that didn’t work.
