About 800 former employees of the bankrupt Swift Galey textile plant in Muscogee County recently won a second chance at re-employment assistance under the U.S. Trade Act.

The U.S. Labor Department, which had initially denied a petition for assistance, granted a revised petition supported by the Georgia Labor Department.

Displaced Swift Galey employees may now be eligible for federal assistance in addition to aid they currently receive from the state. That assistance includes employment counseling, relocation assistance, remedial education, occupational training, tax credits and additional unemployment insurance.
