Plenty of job candidates talk a good game, but they couldn't think critically if their lives depended on it. Filter out those impostors during the interview by handing them a legal pad and asking them to take 10 minutes to write out a summary of the key industry trends. The kind of thinking you require for top-level hires usually appears—or fails to appear—in writing.
