Employees from about three dozen public and private organizations in Arkansas are participating in a virtual race across the state as part of the Arkansas Fitness Challenge created by the state Department of Health and Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
The 13-week event is a virtual race through 30 Arkansas cities. Employees chart their exercise progress and "move" to another city each time they log 30 minutes of aerobic exercise.
To add fun, some companies challenge others to see whose employees log more hours exercising. A survey after last year's event found that 56 percent of participating employees reported a drop in stress during the contest.
